We just released a new feature that allows you to have firmware programmed onto your devices during the manufacturing process.

We love seeing all of the creative projects that our users are been working on. One of these projects is the Nixie Radian, a stylish analog nixie clock made using vintage IN-9 Nixie Tubes.

We've partnered with Altium CircuitMaker to bring our manufacturing services to PCB projects designed with their software.

We're often asked "How can I allow others to view and edit my project?". Organizations create a GitHub-like space for hardware projects, making it easy to set up teams and collaborate with your peers.

A question that we've frequently been asked is "How should I deal with parts which are out of stock or not available on CircuitHub?" We recently released several features which let you supply your own pricing, add parts that aren't in our database, and consign parts.

One of our favorite things is seeing the transformation of our customer's designs to a finished product. Sam aka "THE Awkward Engineer" prototyped some boards through CircuitHub for his recently launched Kickstarter campaign.

We recently sponsored Defconbots, an autonomous robots competition which is part of Defcon and took place in Las Vegas at the beginning of August. Defconbots had a five year hiatus, but is finally back. We were very excited when they asked us to become a sponsor of the event. We helped to sponsor the competition by donating some CircuitHub shirts as well as a $250 credit towards manufacturing on CircuitHub.

A recent project that we manufactured were these lightweight low-cost wildlife tracking tags using integrated transceivers. The tags were designed by Sivan Toledo for use by the Minerva Center for Movement Ecology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, a center that focuses on measuring and understanding the movement patterns of wild animals.

Although not as popular nowadays, through-hole components were dominant for decades. IBM pioneered the through-hole part along with printed circuits and the technology of how to put leaded components through the circuit. Before this everything was all wire wound. Since the evolution of SMT technology has largely replaced the through-hole technology construction method, its popularity has gone way down and today are used mostly for making interconnections between board layers or when a stronger connection to the pcb is needed.

The fact that 55% of all Kickstarter campaigns in the hardware category since Kickstarter's inception in 2009 were launched in the past 12 months alone strongly suggests that many engineers are turning to crowdfunding as a way to fund and promote their hardware projects. As much as we love Kickstarter and the fantastic products it has brought us, we wanted to address some concerns specific to hardware campaigns.
